Why most product lists online do not help
Lists of the best products to sell on Amazon India are usually based on what sold well last year. The moment a product appears on such a list, hundreds of new sellers jump in and prices fall. Instead of copying a list, learn to read the marketplace yourself.
Signs of a profitable product on Amazon
- People search for it every month, not only in one festival
- Top listings have reviews, but not tens of thousands each
- You can improve on a common complaint in the reviews
- It is light and hard to break, so shipping and returns stay low
- Your selling price leaves room after fees, ads and GST
- You can reorder it reliably from your supplier
How to find products to sell on Amazon
Start from your own strengths. A textile trader in Surat, a spice family in Kerala or a hardware dealer in Delhi already has sourcing and knowledge that a beginner does not. Profitable products to sell on Amazon often come from a category you understand.
Then search the product on Amazon as a buyer would. Note the price range on page one, how many reviews the leaders have, and what buyers complain about in the 2 and 3 star reviews. Complaints are product ideas: a better lid, a bigger size, clearer instructions.
Look at the Best Sellers pages
Amazon's Best Sellers and Movers & Shakers pages show what is selling now in each category. Use them to spot trends, not to copy products.
Use autocomplete
Type the product into Amazon's search bar and read the suggestions. They show how buyers actually phrase their search.
Amazon product selection: the profit check
A product that sells but leaves no money is not a good product. Before you buy stock, list every cost: product cost, packaging, inbound shipping, Amazon referral and closing fees, shipping or FBA fees, GST on fees, ad spend and an allowance for returns.
If the numbers only work when you never run ads and never get a return, the product is too thin. Look for a margin that survives a bad week.
Categories that often suit new sellers
Home and kitchen organisers, personal care, pet supplies, stationery, fitness accessories and regional food products are common starting points because they are light, repeat purchases and easy to photograph. Every category still needs its own check. Some, like beauty, food and health products, need extra approvals or licences such as FSSAI.
